Canada Cinemas participates in affiliate partnerships with major Canadian cinema chains and exhibitors, including Cineplex Inc., Landmark Cinemas, Imagine Cinemas and others. This page explains how those partnerships work and what you should know.

What this means in practice

When you click a "Buy Tickets" button on Canada Cinemas, you are redirected to the partner cinema's own ticket-purchase page (cineplex.com, landmarkcinemas.com, imagincinemas.com, or the independent cinema's own site). We do not sell or process ticket sales ourselves. The cinema handles the transaction, the seat selection, the payment, and the delivery of your ticket.

If you complete a ticket purchase after being referred from our site, we may receive a small commission from the partner cinema. This commission is paid by the cinema, not by you — your ticket costs the same as it would if you'd visited the cinema's site directly.

Why we disclose this

Canadian and US consumer protection rules (the Competition Bureau in Canada, the Federal Trade Commission in the US) require affiliate relationships to be disclosed clearly. We do that for two reasons:

  • It's required. Canadian consumer law requires us to.
  • It's right. You deserve to know how this site pays for itself.

What it doesn't mean

Affiliate relationships do not affect what we write. Reviews are independent. If I write that a Cineplex VIP auditorium has uncomfortable seats (I have), the fact that Cineplex is an affiliate partner does not change that. If I write that a film is bad (I do, regularly), the fact that the cinema showing it is a partner does not change that.

We do not accept payment for reviews from studios, distributors, production companies or publicists. Press screenings and complimentary tickets, when offered and accepted, are disclosed inline in the specific review.

Which cinemas are affiliate partners

As of the current date, Canada Cinemas has affiliate arrangements with:

  • Cineplex Inc. (Cineplex, Cineplex Odeon, Scotiabank Theatre, SilverCity, Colossus, Cineplex VIP Cinemas)
  • Landmark Cinemas (operated by Kinepolis Group Canada)
  • Imagine Cinemas
  • Selected independent theatres including Bloor Hot Docs, Revue Cinema, The Royal, Fox Theatre, Rio Theatre Vancouver

We are not affiliated with or endorsed by any of these cinema chains. They are independent businesses. We review their offerings independently.

Your data

When you click through from our site to a partner cinema, the partner may receive information about the referring site (canadacinemas.com). This is standard affiliate tracking. We never receive information about specific purchases, credit card details, or any personally identifying information from partner cinemas.
